As one of the largest banks in the U.S., Citibank features a robust offering of banking services including personal bank accounts, business bank accounts, loans, investments, and credit cards. Most of these come with fees, offer relatively little in return, and require you to open an “account package” consisting of a linked checking and savings account.

On the other hand, you can often find good Citibank new account bonuses if you’re OK with opening up a package deal. These Citibank bonus offers can be a little complex to understand, but the payoff may be worth it. We’ll show you how to earn them.

Citibank offers may vary across the country and aren’t available everywhere. You’ll be prompted to enter your ZIP code when you visit the webpage so you can see if you qualify.

Citibank : Citibank - $200–$2, 000

Citibank

Citibank

  • Bonus Amount: $200–$2,000
  • Promotion Expiry: Jan. 9, 2024
  • Qualifications: Deposit, maintain balance
How to Get the Bonus
  1. Open a new Citibank account. Make sure to open the account via the specific offer page to ensure you’re eligible. Alternatively, you can open the account package over the phone, but be sure to mention the offer so the representative can sign you up for the bonus.
  2. Deposit at least $10,000 within 20 days. Not only will this deposit amount be enough to net you the lowest-level bonus amount, but it’ll help you avoid the $25 monthly fee for this account too. You can earn even higher bonus amounts that scale according to your deposit amount (see table below).
  3. Let your money sit for at least 60 more days. Your checking account balance on the 21st day after opening the account package sets the maximum bar for your Citibank bonus amount. After that, you must keep that money in your account for another 60 days. If you make any withdrawals that cause your balance to drop to a lower tier level, your bonus amount will be adjusted accordingly. That means if you drop your balance below $10,000, you won’t be eligible for any bonus at all.
  4. Earn your bonus within 30 days. If you’re still eligible for the bonus, Citibank will process it as a deposit into your new checking account. This could take a further 30 days, so make sure to keep your account open in the meantime. Keep at least $10,000 in the account (or across all your Citi accounts) to avoid the monthly maintenance fee.
If You Deposit  Your Bonus Will Be
$10,000 $200
$30,000  $500
$75,000  $1,000
$200,000  $1,500
$300,000  $2,000
Bonus Restrictions and Account Fees
  • You are not eligible if you’ve had another Citi checking account in the past 180 days or if you’re under age 18.
  • Deposits must be made via direct deposit, wire transfer, or P2P payments like from Zelle. Cash deposits and money from existing Citi bank accounts don’t qualify.
  • Citibank charges a $25 monthly fee for this checking account unless you have a combined balance of $10,000 or more across all of your linked Citibank accounts.
  • This account may come with other fees too, such as a non-Citibank ATM withdrawal fee ($2.50; but will be waived along with your monthly fee if eligible) and wire transfer fees.

Citibank : Citibank Priority - $200–$2, 000

Citibank

Citibank

  • Bonus Amount: $200–$2,000
  • Promotion Expiry: Jan. 9, 2024
  • Qualifications: Deposit, maintain balance
How to Get the Bonus
  1. Open a new Citibank Priority account. To make sure you’re enrolled to earn the bonus, use the specific link on the offer page or mention the offer to an account representative if you’re opening the account over the phone. You’re not eligible if you open the account any other way, including in person.
  2. Fund your checking account within 20 days. The amount you have deposited on the 21st day after opening the account determines how large of a bonus you’re eligible for. Make sure any deposits go to your checking account, because money in the linked savings account doesn’t count.
  3. Maintain your balance for another 60 days. On the 21st day after you open the account, the clock starts on a 60-day countdown. You can withdraw money during this time, but if you ever drop your account balance below the tier level you’re already at, your bonus amount will be downgraded accordingly. If your balance drops below $10,000, you aren’t eligible for any Citibank bonus.
  4. Keep your account open for another 30 days. After you lock in your final Citibank bonus amount, the bank will take up to 30 days to deposit the money into your new checking account. If you close your account before this happens, you won’t earn the bonus.
If You Deposit Your Bonus Will Be
$10,000 $200
$30,000  $500
$75,000  $1,000
$200,000  $1,500
$300,000  $2,000
Bonus Restrictions and Account Fees
  • You are not eligible if you’ve had an open Citi checking account in the last 180 days.
  • You must be at least 18 years old with a residential (non-PO-box) mailing address.
  • Your deposit must come from outside of Citibank and must be made via wire transfer, check, direct deposit, or P2P payments like Zelle, PayPal, or Venmo. Cash deposits do not count.
  • The Citi Priority checking account charges a $30 monthly fee unless you qualify for a waiver by maintaining at least $30,000 across all of your linked Citibank accounts.

Citibank : Citigold - $200–$2, 000

Citibank

Citibank

  • Bonus Amount: $200–$2,000
  • Promotion Expiry: Jan. 9, 2024
  • Qualifications: Deposit, maintain balance
How to Get the Bonus
  1. Open a new Citigold account. In order to earn the bonus you’ll need to open an account online using the specific link on the offer page, or over the phone. If you take the latter route, be sure to mention to the account rep that you’d like to be enrolled to earn the current Citibank bonus offer.
  2. Deposit $10,000 or more into the checking account within 20 days. To be eligible for a Citigold account you’ll need to bring $200,000 or more to the bank, which you can sprinkle across various Citi accounts. To earn the lowest-level bonus you’ll need to deposit at least $10,000 into the Citigold checking account, but you have the potential to earn far more with your high deposit size (see table below).
  3. Maintain your balance for another 60 days. Keep the deposit in your new checking account for another 60 days to ensure you earn the bonus amount. You won’t earn a higher-tier bonus if you deposit more at this point, but you can earn less if you withdraw enough to drop down into a lower-level tier at any time during this 60-day waiting period. If you go below $10,000, you forfeit eligibility for any bonus at all.
  4. Wait up to 30 days to receive your Citibank bonus. After taking stock of your checking account balance between the 21st and 60th days after opening your account, Citibank will determine your bonus amount. It’ll be deposited into your checking account within the next 30 days, so you’ll need to keep your account open to receive it.
If You Deposit  Your Bonus Will Be
$10,000 $200
$30,000  $500
$75,000  $1,000
$200,000  $1,500
$300,000  $2,000

Depositing more than $250,000 into a deposit account is risky because amounts higher than this aren’t protected by FDIC insurance.

Bonus Restrictions and Account Fees
  • This offer is available to people 18 years or older with a residential address (i.e., not a P.O. box) living in most U.S. states and territories.
  • Deposits must be made via direct deposit, wire transfer, check, or P2P payment such as Venmo. Deposits made in cash or from money already held in a Citibank account don’t count.
  • This account doesn’t charge many (if any) fees, but does require you to keep at least $200,000 in all of your linked Citibank accounts combined, including investments.

Citibank

Citibank

  • Bonus Amount: $200–$2,000
  • Promotion Expiry: Jan. 9, 2024

How to Get the Bonus
  1. Open a new Citi Basic Banking account. You have two options for how to open the account. You can do it online, but be sure to use the specific link on the offer page to qualify. You can also do it over the phone, but be sure to mention the bonus offer to the customer service rep to make sure you’re signed up for the offer.
  2. Deposit $10,000 or more within 20 days. Your checking account balance on the 21st day determines the maximum bonus you can qualify for. Deposit more to earn a higher Citibank bonus amount (see table below).
  3. Keep the money in your account for another 60 days. If your checking account balance dips into a lower tier level because you made a withdrawal from your account, your bonus will be reduced accordingly. Thus, it’s best to just let your money sit. If your account balance drops below $10,000, you lose eligibility for any bonus at all.
  4. Earn your bonus within the next 30 days. If you meet the first three Citibank bonus criteria, you can expect to receive your payout within 30 days. It’ll be deposited into your new checking account, so be sure to keep this open so you can receive your funds.
